How to Choose Where to Stay

How to Choose Where to Stay In an effort to offset the cost of a pricey city, rather than just turning up, realizing that all the cheap places in town are full, and having to stay somewhere that’s out of your price range, do your research and contact the hotels you’re interested in staying at in advance. And do your research on CheapOair, where you’ll find lots of search results of hotels within your price range.

1. The additional bonus of research from a budgeting point of view is that the more hotels, B&B’s and hostels you research and book before you leave; the easier it is to budget while you’re actually on vacation. Take your booking confirmation out and add up EXACTLY how much you’ll owe when you get there, and how much you’ll have left to spend.

2. From a financial point of view, it’s important that you also check out which hotels and hostels provide sheets and towels because some don’t. Perks, such as free internet access, and complementary breakfast are common and can come in handy, too. It may not sound like much, but a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice, or a couple of slices of toast and jam and a coffee can really set you up for the day, and save you quite a few bucks.

Sightseeing

Another way, in which you can find your money quickly disappearing on your travels, is through sightseeing. Monuments, art galleries, museums and tours can be quite pricey. We’re obviously not suggesting that you shouldn’t sightsee and enjoy as much culture as you can on your travels because you should. Planning what you see in advance can help you budget your trip.

For example, ask yourself if you really want to pay “X” amount of dollars to see a collection of obscure Byzantine artworks. If not, don’t bother, and save your money for the things you really do want to see and do. You’re not obliged to visit every attraction in the city you visit.

Another good tip is to track down small museums, galleries and historical sites, the ones tucked away on a side street where you have to ring a bell, or call out for a curator to come scuttling out. They’re often equally interesting, and quite often, free.

Some Things to Consider When Traveling

Getting around as inexpensively as possible, especially for students is to find out the cheapest forms of transportation at your chosen destination BEFORE your arrival.

1. Don’t forget your student ID card, this can save you a lot of money and alleviate the some of the expenses associated with travel and daily transport. Additionally, you’ll benefit from a host of savings and student discounts available all around the globe. In the long run, the savings can be huge.

2. In addition to a student card, a rail card can really reduce your travel expenses if you’re traveling in one geographical area, like the United States, say, or Europe. Apart from giving you freedom to travel around your chosen area, this is also a great savings.

Another important thing you must remember to do is research, research, research. It’s not just flights that have fluctuating costs day-to-day and week-to-week, buses and trains do, too. Additionally, by doing your homework, you’ll find lots of deals and special offers for all sorts of forms of transportation.

Stay Healthy

Traveling with care also means taking care of you. Make your health a priority at all times. A few wise steps can go a long way:

Make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date.

Consult with a doctor who specializes in travel medicine to ensure you get the appropriate shots and vaccinations before you travel.

If you are currently on medication remember to bring along an extra supply.

If you wear glasses, be sure to bring an extra pair.

If you take medication according to a strict time schedule, i.e., insulin, find out from your doctor how to adjust your schedule.

Bring a basic first aid kit with medicines as prescribed by your doctor.

There is one thing in common about student travelers, no matter where you come from, students’ budgets are limited. If you don’t manage your money well, you’ll have a propensity to over-spend. To avoid ending up in trouble during your vacation and racking up unnecessary debt, plan and budget your trip carefully before you take off for your adventure.

Business travel bookings among Australian companies are down 36% due to the rationalising of corporate travel during the global financial crisis and swine flu pandemic.

Tourism technology provider, Amadeus, reports that European destinations have been the worst hit (25%), followed by North America (22%) and the Asia-Pacific (12%).

But according to corporate travel management company, BCD Travel, Australian companies can cut corporate travel costs without cutting back so severely on corporate travel flights.

Companies could instead revise and enforce their corporate travel policies more tightly, introduce an online booking engine (OBE) with self-booking travel tools to ensure compliance among staff and set up better quality reporting to monitor their business travel.

The corporate travel agency also recommends taking best fares of the day for flights and transfers instead of locking in a deal with one carrier and car hire company in 2009.

One thing leads to another as the price wars begin…

At a time when companies across Australia are frantically cutting costs to offset the impact of the global financial crisis, business travel is getting cheaper as major airline carriers go head to head on popular corporate travel routes such as Sydney to Los Angeles.

Four carriers are now flying from Sydney to LA following Delta Airlines and V Australia’s entry into the trans-Pacific sector, with flights expected to go as low as $320 one way before tax, according to US analyst Rick Seaney of Fare Compare.

A Flight Centre survey shows international fares are more than $200 cheaper on average compared to five years ago. The Sydney to Los Angeles business travel route is now 41% cheaper than in 2004. Corporate travellers flying from Sydney to Bangkok are now flying for 29% less, according to the survey.

Airfares are now cheaper than ever before – providing much needed relief for organisations requiring staff to undertake regular corporate travel. However, current corporate travel fares are not sustainable for carriers and prices will likely rise, experts say.

Other developments: First aid kits for business travel?

Travel management company, BCD Travel, recommends first aid kits for corporate travellers flying abroad, particularly those business travellers flying to emerging market destinations such as South America and India.

The type of kit you need depends largely on your destination and your personal requirements, according to the corporate travel management company.

BCD Travel Sales Director, Stephen Finlay, suggests corporate travellers visit a specialised travel medicine clinic to seek advice on what to include in their light weight first aid kit.

Travel medicine specialist, Dr Trish Batchelor, who is based in Ho Chi Minh’s International SOS clinic, recently provided this advice to readers of her news.com.au online column:

“If you are sticking to major cities a basic kit will suffice, however, if you are intending to visit more remote or high altitude areas you should be more thoroughly prepared.

“A good kit should have essential first aid items including a thermometer, bandage, a variety of dressings, antiseptic and scissors. It should also cover common health problems faced by travellers such as diarrhoea and respiratory tract infections.

“Painkillers, cough and cold medication, rehydration solution, Imodium and an antibiotic for traveller’s diarrhoea (Noroxin is best) would constitute a basic kit.

“If you are venturing further off the beaten track you should add in a general antibiotic for skin and respiratory infections, an antibiotic for parasites and possibly treatment for altitude sickness (for parts of South America).”

Becoming a travel nurse is the best chance to explore your potential on personal and professional fronts. If you enjoy traveling and possess an adventure to explore new world with different geographic locations, travel nursing is the right choice you for.

Getting traveling nurse jobs is not that difficult these days. You can contact to various travel nursing agencies to get relevant opportunities in various states of the United States. Being a travel nurse, you can assist troubled people in different locations along with fulfilling your desire of exploring the natural importance of different areas.<br />

The job allows a nurse to see the world by her own. Besides, enjoying the specialties of different locations, a nurse is also entitled to get other benefits including handsome salary package, bonuses, medical facilities, accommodation and insurance. However, if you are looking for some great opportunities in travel medicine, you need to find a useful travel nursing agency. Let us show you how you find a dream agency which can help you a lot:

As the demand of travel nurses has increased, numerous agencies have come forward to help aspiring nurses to find their dream destinations. But the question arises here is how?

To find a good travel nursing agency, you need to go through a quality research. You can walk to their offices in order to get insights about their offerings and claims. If you do not have enough time to visit personally, you can opt for online agencies working for hiring travel nurses.

Online travel nursing agencies are equally good and genuine. You can easily get connected through their websites and get a glimpse of their claims. You can further check their worth by reading testimonials and contacts. One you get satisfied, you can register your name and submit a brief bio-data in their database. After matching your needs with available vacancies, you will be called by various health facilities and hospital recruiters. Finally, you can negotiate your conditions to enter into an agreement.

A vacation overseas is an exciting event. Exotic locations can mean a greater risk for potential health problems and a larger chance of not finding adequate medical services.

Why not prepare your travel health details as carefully as your itinerary? A happy, healthy and safe excursion could depend on using Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld of the Fox News Channel’s 8 Travel Tips for an overseas vacation.

1. Have current immunizations.

Current immunizations recommended for every country are available from the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/travel. The CDC site has great information on the various ways to guard your health while traveling abroad.

2. Brush your teeth with bottled water.

Local water supplies can carry diseases that often cause illness in travelers but not in natives. Use bottled water to brush your teeth. If bottled water is not available, boiling local water for a minimum of 1 minute and allowing it to cool to room temperature will kill bacteria and parasites that can cause illness.

3. Peel fruits and vegetables, don’t eat them raw with the skin.

Locally grown foods, like the water, can carry diseases that cause illness to a traveler. Dr. Rosenfeld advises removing the skin from raw vegetables and fruits before eating, while the CDC suggests not purchasing food from street vendors. Only eat food that has been fully cooked.

4. Take extra medication with you.

Your vacation should be fun. The anxiety you would undoubtedly feel by running out of necessary prescription medication could ruin good memories of the trip. Do yourself a favor and avoid that anxiety by packing extra medication beyond the number of days you plan to be away. Murphy’s Law exists; negate it by being prepared.

5. Create a travel first aid kit.

Create one or two first aid kits. Why two kits? One that you keep in your suitcase and the other to keep on your person. In the suitcase include anti-motion, anti-diarrheal medications and a mild laxative. A package of preferred decongestant and antihistamine should be included with 1% hydro cortisone and anti-fungal creams. In your personal kit keep latex gloves, band aids, moleskin for blisters and antibiotic cream. Anti-inflammatory medicine of your choice and throat lozenges are important as well.

6. Make a travel insurance investment.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could see into the future? But because we can’t, buy a cushion of comfort in the form of travel insurance. The more expensive the trip, the more important this investment could be.

7. Avoid swimming in ponds or lakes.

Parasitic and bacterial diseases can exist in lakes and ponds as they can in local drinking water. Avoid swimming in still bodies of water. Swimming in the ocean or in chlorinated swimming pools is okay. But swimming in a local river should be avoided.

8. Combat mosquitoes.

Make sure you pack sunscreen and insect repellent. Repellent should include DEET in a 20-50% concentration which is acceptable for children over 2 months and adults according to the CDC. Apply your sunscreen first then spray the repellent on your body and clothing. Wear long sleeves and pants when possible to avoid mosquitoes, fleas and ticks. Mosquitoes that transmit malaria are more active at dusk and again at dawn. Those that bite during the day tend to carry dengue fever.

Should a serious illness or injury occur to you or a traveling partner, there are several places you can seek help. One such organization is MEDEX, www.medexassist.com. The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and The International Society of Travel Medicine are two more organizations that offer different areas of help. Check their websites for more information before leaving.

Healthy travel is easy if you are prepared. Enjoy your travels knowing you are prepared for the worst which, universally speaking, means the worst probably won’t happen.
